The Controller will manage daily operations and assist in monthly financial closes, quarterly financial reviews, and annual audits. The role requires business acumen, the ability to multi-task and work in a high growth environment, and handling of confidential information with the utmost discretion. The controller interacts closely with all levels of management and staff, as well as outside service providers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
•Prepare and issue financial statements and providing management with financial and operations data to facilitate understanding, interpreting and reporting the financial results.
•Prepare financial analysis including the preparation of the monthly forecast, annual budget, strategic plan, and the monthly results.
•Create metrics and reports for senior management to analyze business operations.
•Work directly with external auditors and manage the preparations for quarterly financial reviews and annual audits.
•Ownership of accounting activity including general accounting, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable and fixed assets.
•Evaluate, improve, and streamline new processes
•Manage monthly billing and general ledger close cycle (including account reconciliations, revenue recognition, journal entries, accruals, and account analysis)
•Establish and assist with the implementation of procedures necessary to maintain and improve Internal Controls.
•Daily cash management of the bank accounts and company line of credit and cash flow analysis.
•Ensure conformity with GAAP and applicable federal and state regulations
•Manage the preparation of sales tax returns, handle state tax registrations locations as the company grows, handle various regulatory filings, and support income tax return preparation for multiple states.
•Work with HR in managing the 401(k) compliance issues and plan administration.
•In conjunction with the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, act as a NetSuite expert for all accounting-related activities.
•Oversee project setup and creation within NetSuite.
•Manage NetSuite system upgrades and changes to the system.
•Negotiate and renew contracts including insurance, equipment purchase, and other software purchases.
•Partner with senior leadership, and the Human Resources (HR) and Information Technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate Finance, HR, and IT functions.
•Work with HR in various areas including compensation, benefits and travel and expense policies
•Other duties and special projects as assigned
Supervise and develop the accounting and payroll staff through effective training, priority setting, and performance management.
•Excellent written and verbal communications skills, as well the ability to meet deadlines.
•Detail-oriented personality, and demonstrable knowledge of financial reporting, accounting controls, processes and procedures.
•Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and meet varying deadlines, and possess excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task and work effectively as a member of a team.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BA/BS in a Business-related discipline and a minimum of seven years of accounting or financial experience. Hands-on experience with business modeling methods in preparation of financial and/or operations analysis as well as quantitative skills in a business context. Strong Excel knowledge, ability to manipulate advanced workbooks and communicate ideas visually with graphics. Experience managing a team. Employment in an entrepreneurial environment would be helpful as well as experience preparing for an accounting audit. Significant experience with Deltek Vision, NetSuite or other advanced CRM Accounting systems a plus. Public accounting experience is a plus. CPA preferred.
