Job Summary

Acts as a liaison between the Finance and Business Intelligence (BI) department and establishes operating practices to ensure high quality and efficient extraction and transformation of data. Supports Financial Reporting applications to include, but not limited to, ESSBASE, EPSi and BOE reports. Plans, develops, implements, designs, and maintains assigned systems, and provides collaboration for reports, dashboards, and other BI delivery methods using a variety of technologies. Functions on an advanced level in multiple platforms, reporting systems, and tool sets. Provides complex assessment, identification of system requirements, and functional definitions of planned reporting development.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Analytics and Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems (or) 5 years of experience in financial and clinical workflows as well as Information Systems development, implementation, and support
  • 3 years of Healthcare data analysis or financial experience
  • 3-5 years hands-on experience in solid Business Intelligence systems design, implementation, and administration, including one or more of the following: Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Cognos, Microsoft Reporting Services, EPSI, ESSBASE or MicroStrategy
  • 3-5 years of practical experience with project delivery and systems development life cycles
  • 3-5 years of experience in Information Systems development, implementation, and support

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior experience in financial applications implementation and support highly preferred.
  • Experience in Accounting, Finance, and revenue cycle is highly desired.
  • Ability to design and develop reports, dashboards, and other analytical delivery methods using SQL- based tools.
  • Practical experience with project delivery and systems development life cycles.
  • Experience with Cerner, PeopleSoft, EPSi, ESSBASE, ThoughtSpot, Health Catalyst, and BOE preferred.
  • Understands and is able to convey functional requirements to the technical team.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer-relations skills.
  • Excellent written skills and experience with documentation of issues and resolutions.
  • Working knowledge of one or more programming languages/ reporting systems, including .Net, Java, XML, SQL, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Hyperion, Microsoft Reporting Services, MicroStrategy, SAS.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting principles and practices, and reporting of financial data.
  • Demonstrates understanding and implementation of data governance.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Demonstrates ability to contribute positively in a team environment.
  • Desire to continually learn how to use new technology, applications, and methodologies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrates ability to present understandable reports; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare clinical, business/financial and/or other workflow and computer applications.
  • Working knowledge of flexible budgeting concepts.

Job Specific Duties

  • Assesses, plans, develops, implements and maintains assigned systems and business intelligence delivery. Functions on an advanced level in multiple platforms, reporting systems, and tool sets.
  • Provides complex assessment, identification of system requirements, and functional definitions of planned reporting development.
  • Adheres to IT standards and implements appropriate security safeguards in report development in order to maintain confidentiality and privacy of information.
  • Conducts data analyses as requested in supported databases.
  • Maintains production reporting systems to ensure reliable performance, appropriate change management, and auditing.
  • Serves as expert resource and educates others on appropriate utilization of business intelligence systems to support the delivery of quality care and operational/research excellence.
  • Collects and utilizes metrics and analytics to validate progress.
  • Adapts to business needs based on new suites.
  • Builds processes to reconcile between data sources and target tables/system, including, ERP, cost accounting system, general ledger, EDW, BOE, EPSi, EMR, etc.
  • Supports the annual operating and capital budgeting processes with Budget and Finance departments.
  • Works with members of the Information Systems staff, clinical and financial departments, and other NCHS personnel to accomplish the goals established for projects.
  • Acts as finance liaison to assigned operational areas developing in-depth working knowledge of operations.
  • Determines how BI systems will provide information required to make effective business decisions, translates requirements into applications that employ appropriate BI and reporting tools.
  • Utilizes broad experience and technical knowledge to propose solutions to complex business problems. Takes the lead in driving the implementation of the recommended solutions.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for review of company data project business requirements and source to target data source mapping. Signs-off on documentation or offers feedback.
