Description

The Visualization Support Engineer implements and administers complex virtualized environments to support our growing Infrastructure Services team. Incumbent has a working knowledge of VMware products including but not limited to VMware vSphere, View, vCenter Operations and SRM. Knowledge of other virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, Xen) is a plus. The incumbent helps implement and support various virtualization (VMware) technologies. The VMware/Virtualization Engineer reports to the VP of Infrastructure Services.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implementation of best-practice procedures for VMware server with knowledge of desktop virtualization.
  • Support existing environments needs including patching and upgrades Perform assessments on infrastructure to determine risks, and provide recommendations for resolution and future environment state.
  • Produce and maintain documentation.
  • Interface with application support and other infrastructure teams.
  • Serve as Level 2/3 VMware/virtualization support for the network operations center (NOC).
  • Other duties as needed or required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • A bachelor's degree (B.S.) in computer science, information systems, electrical engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Five years of relevant experience implementing and administering VMware environments.
  • Extensive experience with vSphere 4/5 including but not limited to vCenter, ESX/ESXi, Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and vSphere Replication.
  • Experience with implementing and managing View and Horizon View environments.
  • Experience with physical to virtual migrations (P2V) and associated tools.
  • Good understanding of virtualization concepts such as distributed switches, virtualized storage, snapshots and vMotion.
  • Good understanding of storage architecture in a virtualized environment.
  • Experience in iSCI, NFS, FC and FoE protocols.
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and components common in a data center environment.
  • Experience with and knowledge of multiple hypervisors and virtualization technologies.
  • Hands-on experience working with Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2003 and basic Linux commands.
  • Experience with documentation for system builds, configurations and support procedures.
  • Experience with diverse hardware platforms (Cisco, Dell, IBM, HP). Experience with supporting and administering Cisco UCS.
  • Five years of relevant experience implementing and administering VMware environments.
  • Experience with physical to virtual migrations (P2V) and associated tools.

Preferred:

  • VMware Certification (VCP) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with cloud products (vCloud Suite, OpenStack, Azure) is a plus.
  • Experience with scripting and automation is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively. Requires overall light physical effort (up to 25lbs.) Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position own position responsibilities (i.e. use of personal computer). Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required. Incumbent works primarily in either a private or shared office environment.
